Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: direct supervision of the Engineering Maintenance department consisting of IATSE Maintenance Technician and daily oversight of Master Control Hub/Spoke automation technology; developing, implementing and maintaining all broadcast equipment and systems to ensure efficient, fault tolerant and error-free operations; providing oversight of design, construction and preventive maintenance of broadcast facilities and assume responsibility for on-time, satisfactory completion of assigned projects with established budgets; maintaining working knowledge of support systems such as emergency power generation and switching systems, UPS and power distribution devices and HVAC; developing and implementing current and long-range technical operation plans with an emphasis on emerging technology and competitive ENG systems to support all television and News operations, including the identification, evaluation and implementation of new technologies and equipment needs, as well as recommendations regarding technical and/or support systems requirements for existing operational instructions; under the guidance of the Regional VP of Engineering, prepare departmental expense budgets and oversee the preparation of both current and future three-year Capital Improvement plans; oversee weekly payroll summaries submitted by the Operations and Maintenance staff; devising and implementing new methods and standards to streamline operations and reduce on-air errors; documenting and maintaining strict FCC, EAS and OSHA regulation compliance and internal company policies; other duties as assigned. Requirements include: Individual must be a strong leader with excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have the ability to direct and motivate the technical staff and work well with station departments; strong organization skills, accuracy and attention to detail is required; must represent the Station in a manner consistent with the business standards and policies of the company; display and maintain professional appearance and demeanor, based on the Stations standards; varied work hours, holidays and weekends and be available to work during severe weather situations, as needed; proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint and AutoCAD software a must. SBE certification is desirable; knowledge of television transmitters and RF facilities a plus; must be fluent in the interpretation of current Collective Bargaining Agreements in force with labor unions to ensure both procedural and substantive rights of the Company and Union are observed, while identifying possible changes within these contracts to ensure the success of company operating initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional IT/IP knowledge base specifically related to the adoption of digital audio/video over IP transport. Bachelors degree in electronics/electrical engineering preferred and a minimum of ten (10) years broadcast engineering and similar management position held. Certification of higher working knowledge of digital broadcast systems including but not limited to: full power UHF broadcast transmitters, encoding equipment, server technology, LAN, WAN and storage technologies is a must. Strong follow-through, written communications and interpersonal skills required. Position requires moderate workstation and telephone use. Light sitting, standing, bending, walking, stair climbing, driving, traveling, attending meetings and lifting a maximum of 50lbs. is also required.
